Rava idli Recipe ingredients

• 2 cup Rava / sooji
• 2 cup Curds / yoghurt
• 2 tablespoon oil
• 2 green chillies chopped
• 2 to 3 strands of fresh coriander leaves, finally chopped
• Curry leaves
• 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
• Salt to taste
• 1 teaspoon urad dal, channa dal
• 1 teaspoon mustard seed1 table spoon peanuts or cashews
• 1 onion chopped (optional)
• 1 tablespoon grated coconut


How to make Rava idli at home:


• Heat oil in a pan.
• Add Mustard seeds. After it splutters, put curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal, cashews, and green chillies.
• Add rava/sooji to this and fry till it gets light brown.
• Leave it to cool down.
• Beat the curd.
• Add the rava mix to the curd.
• Add baking soda, salt to taste, coriander leaves, chopped onion, peanuts or cashews and the grated coconut.
• Mix well and leave the rava idli batter for 10 to 15 minutes.
• Grease Idli plates with oil.
• Now pour the rava idli batter to the idli plates and place this idli stand in a pressure cooker.
• Put 2 cups of water in pressure cooker before placing the idli stand.
• First cook for 5 minutes on high flame and then 5 to 7 minutes on low flame.
• Rava idli is served hot with Coconut Chutney and sambher. Ghee poured on the top of Rava Idli put in to the overall taste.

Tips for Rava idli recipe


• Chopped vegetable can be added to the rava idli batter as per your taste preferences such as peas, chopped tomatos.
• Keep in mind that Baking soda is different from Baking powder. You have to use baking soda in rava idli recipe.


• Add a little water to the batter, if the curd is very thick.
• Most important do not forget to put off the vessel of pressure cooker, if you are making rava idlis in a cooker instead of microwave oven.


• Don't leave the batter of rava idli recipe for more than 15 minutes, once baking soda has been added. Otherwise rava idlis will not be soft and spongy.
• The procedure for making rava idli is same for microwave oven. It will take 8 minutes in preparation.


• The rawa used in rava idli recipe is Bombay rava.
